And we’re off for Season 2!

Welcome to Season 2 of our adventures aboard S/V Carried Away!

We’ve had a great summer back home in Marblehead, though it went by way too fast! Since we did not arrive back until July 4th we only had 12 short weeks and felt that we were busy the whole time. We got to reconnect with family and friends at our favorite restaurants and of course at the Eastern Yacht Club. Next year, we plan to get home earlier so we can have more time in New England.

Our biggest news of the summer: we took our annual cruise to the Cape & Islands where Trevor proposed to Sarah at the Edgartown lighthouse (and she said yes! YAHOO!!). Sarah’s family flew in to surprise her and we had a fantastic time celebrating their engagement.

On a somber, but loving note, we also had the opportunity to give Billy’s sister Bonnie who had passed away in April, her requested send off. With Mitzi, the family and their northern friends aboard we paid tribute to Bonnie’s beautiful soul with tears, laughter and a proper canon salute.

Summer highlights included included a quick trip to Milwaukee for Hunter and Kate William’s wedding celebration followed immediately by the Kenny Chesney show at Gillette stadium. Trevor and I won the Mother Son golf tournament at Tedesco (and we did just a little bragging about that). We caught a couple of Red Sox games (they actually won one!), spent time with family in Osterville, finally met our grand nephews, sent Willy off to live in San Francisco and celebrated our niece Casey’s pending nuptials with a bridal shower in Stamford the weekend before we left. Phew, it was a very busy summer!

And we’re off!!

We dropped the mooring pennants Friday September 27th and turned south for Carried Away Season 2! Our plan is to cruise down the east coast to Hampton VA where we will depart for Antigua on or around November 1st.

Starting out with us we have Billy’s sister Beth and our brother in law Steve on board. They plant to stay with us to New York City and perhaps a few more days to the Jersey shore. While the weather leading up to our departure was not good with big swells and rain from a lingering Nor’easter, on our day of departure, the weather and sea state was calm and we had a good motor down to Sandwich MA at the East end of the Cape Cod Canal. Beth and Steve managed the helm while Billy and I were busy stowing all the provisions and finishing up some projects. Next stop was Newport RI – a stop we always enjoy and we stayed for a couple of days. Then we pulled into Fisher’s Island NY (our first time) and since it’s late in the season it was beautiful and quiet. We stopped in Port Jefferson, NY on the north shore of Long Island and got to catch up with Mather Hoyt and his fiancé Abby to toast their recent engagement!

Now we’re off to Stamford CT and then onto NYC – weather is looking good for the trip down the coast of NJ and on to Annapolis next week – more to come as we continue south.
